Chinese Cultural Revolution Photos

So I chose the photo from "Smash The Old World." It's a photo of a man on a ladder trying to smash a sign from the "Old World." The people around him look like they are yelling and chanting. Watching and waiting for the sign to be thrown down in the respect of the new world. The four olds were Old Customs, Old Culture, Old Habits, and Old Ideas. Mao to make a new society but to make a new one you would have to destroy the old one. He made his men destroy anything that represented the four olds.
I will connect this to the reading we had, where there was a store and the red guards did not like the name of it. So they took it down and started trying to break it. Everyone was stomping on it and jumping up and down. Then a one man said "this won't work." Another guy came up and said "I have a axe." He put it up against a curb and started whacking at it until it snapped. Then the Red guards announced they wanted every store/sign to have something to do with the revolution or mao.

GPA college blog 2

I was happy when I found out that my overall grade point average was 2.9. I was expecting worse so I'm happy with that grade. I learned that it is a UC school and I have to get my grade up if I ever want to come close to attending it. I would like to apply myself more in class. My next step is to work harder and not to procrasinate. I would also like to keep a calender close by to check assignments. I think I have a problem to get off task too quickly and easily.

Internship talks

Something that struck me about the internships were about how far before you need to look to get an internship you actually want. Some of them were talking about how they found one last minute and got a lucky break. I don't want to be one of those people. I would like to start looking about sophmore and find one hopefully.
I'm looking for an upbeat internship, not one just sitting at a desk. From what I heard sitting at a desk is not only boring, you have to do paper work all day. I am a person that gets bored REALLY fast unless it's something I'm passionate about.
I felt like the photoshop one was painted a pretty good picture because we all know what it feels like to lose a file or and error with photoshop. He explained those exact same feelings as we did as he performed his vignette.

Part Two Suheir Hammad & Marjane Satrapi on War

Revolution is a historic event that changes the world from how it lives to how it works. The way Suheir says what she thinks of a revolution makes her sound like there is no hope in the world. I think she thinks everyone in the world hates her people but not everyone is evil. "Assume they know me, or that I represented a people, or that a people represented an evil, or that evil is as simple as a flag and words on a page." I think this quote was very powerful in the sense that everyone has the chance not to be evil despite the fact of their nationality.
Marjane Satrapi has every right to do what she's doing. I think that she and all the other people protesting are good and the government is bad. Because the government in egypt is not doing what they're supposed to be doing. They need to listen to the people and respond to their needs, instead, they do whatever they want to make them be more powerful.

Suheir Hammad & Marjane Satrapi on War

"I will not dance to your war drum. I will not lend my soul or my bones to your war drum." I thought this was a very important quote because she's saying she does not agree with all this war. That she will not risk her life into something she doesn't believe in. She will not give in to all this pressure the world is putting on her. That she is a strong willed person with an even stronger soul.
Both, Marjane and Suheir, speak their mind and won't let anyone tell them that their wrong. Marjane always talks back to people and being a rebel. I think that Suheir likes to nudge people in a direction to believe her way of thinking.
The thing that struck me in both the poetry and the movie was serious they were about how they felt. They felt really strong about there rights as women. The emotions and the intensity Suheir had was unreal. I feel like she was say her poem right off the top of her head. Marjane stood up for anything she thought was right.

Islam's Music

Islamic music is from the Muslim religion, often played in open areas and/or personal gatherings. Sine the muslim religion has such an eclectic variety of nationalities, their music also very different. There are also songs about nations such as "a hamd" which is a song to pay tribute to Allah, their god in the religion. And "A naat" which is to pay tribute to the prophet muhammad. This group of music is called the qawwali. Some people in this religion believe that singing lyrics are allowable and instruments are prohibited. But the other half of them enjoy instruments such as drums, wind, and string instruments.

Asia Current events

My country is Kyrgyzstan. The word "Kyrgyz" actually is thought of as unstoppable or undefeatable. The It is located in Central Asia. It is in the middle of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. It is about the size of South Dakota. Kyrgyzstan is full of mountains. 90% of their terrain is mountain regions. They have a lot of hydropower and good amounts of gold, oil, and coal.
One of Kyrgyzstan's current event's is how the United states offered Kyrgyzstan a $315 million dollar contract to supply their air force base in Kyrgyzstan. They wanted to make it as clear as possible that they did not want this contract. They have been fueling them since 2002. Kyrgyzstan is asking the US to hold off for a bit until they figure out past "supply deals."

Street Arts

I noticed their unique style of painting, and I wanted to encorporate some of them in mine, such as banksy. I liked how he used stencils to spray paint on the walls. It made them look very clean and slick. I want to use the stencils because I think it will make it way better. It amazed me how fast they finished their artwork. They either finish cutting out the stencils fast or painting the picture fast, then they put up the stencil or the painting in like a minute. I would take a really long time because I have to make everything look good and no stains. I want to finish as fast as he does. He paints about world issues. People usually use their artwork to show a message. They paint a picture to symbolize something. Like banksy, he painted artwork to show how the political government is corrupt.

I drew a lot of handicapped people walking around a circle being miserable. It shows how people in the story are being trapped and forced to be the same and do the same stuff everyday. When you see one person on the left, which is Harrison, broke free from the routine. He is screaming I'm free and breaking all of his handicaps off. That shows the part when Harrison and the empress are free but then soon murdered for not following orders.

Metamorphosis Part 3

Maybe it was because it was a little description of his life. I think the thing that the author that wrote this book, Kafka, was trying to say Gregor was being used and his family barely cared anything about him. His father was abusing him for his own selfish gain. He was making Gregor work because supposedly he needed money to pay off a debt. When in fact, he already had more than enough money to pay it off and just making Gregor's life miserable.
I think he made him a bug because we (as humans) look down to bugs. We think they're dirty, they're unuseful, and most of all they don't do anything positive to the world. It would be bad if he used something that people liked because people would not understand it as much. It was a good book to use a cockroach to show that symbolism.

Metamorphosis Part 2

One of the Samsa's family bad things is how Gregor's father is treating him in his insect form. He thinks he's a whole different person! He doesn't try and communicate with him. He is treating him on how he looks like and has completely forgotten thats Gregor, his son, who is helping him pay off his debt! Like the time when he first saw Gregor in that form, what did he do? He kicked and shoved him back into his room to isolate him from the family. Not only did this hurt his body, but he also hurt his feelings. Another thing is how the rest of his family talks with each other! They also have different opinions on Gregor and they all don't seem to understand each other. For example, when Gregor's own mom wanted to see him his dad wouldn't allow it!
One of the good things that are happening to Gregor is how he gets treated by his sister. His sister does all the things the rest of her family should help with. She responds to Gregor's needs. Like the time she put milk for him to drink since she knows he loves milk... in his human form. However when he was a bug he hated it. So she put a bunch of moldy food and table scraps then Gregor flew to it and killed it!

Healthy family tips.

1. Keep each other informed on things so that they can help you. Not just to go to your room and be alone but talk about your problems.

2. Respond to other people's needs. If you notice something that they're fond of like putting extra sauce in their spaghetti, then take the extra step to do it.

3. Trust, trust, and MORE TRUST !

4. Make sure your being good and there's love between your relationships in your household

5. Be honest to your family. There should be nothing to hide.

I would give Gregor's family a D+ because they don't try and follow my beautiful rules! They're still intact as a family but still has a failing grade at it. I think the cause of this is Gregor's dad. He doesn't realize that his family are people too, with real feelings.

Metamorphosis Part 1

From Gregor's point of view, what might be be some positive aspects of his metamorphosis into an insect?
I think one of the greatest positive aspects is he can probably get money from the government for his "disability". He could have heightened senses, such as crawling on walls, seeing things in the dark, more touch sense with your antennas. You also will have different experiences then a normal person would.
You would probably have to go to special school, probably have to work as something special, and you would probably be tested on. That's not really a good thing though. I think you would have a bulletproof shell if you were a big cochroach. You probably would'nt have to work and you can just eat trash all day! But the bad thing is his life would be dull and boring. His family or a relative would have to take care of him. He would have to be a burden on everyone who takes care of him. I think there would be more negative aspects in being a cockroach than positive. He would have more of a bad life.
